KL GRAND PRIX CSI 5*

For the very first time riders in Asia will be able to compete in a Nations Cup event held in conjunction with a top major international show. The first ever FEI Nations Cup CSIO will make its debut at the KL Grand Prix CSI 5* 2007 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.   

A team each will be invited from Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Korea, Japan, China and India while Malaysia will field two teams. Riders will compete on their own horses over two nerve-wrecking rounds in this event of national pride.

Lauding the move, FEI Secretary General Michael Stone remarked, “Such an initiative will add a new dimension to the sport in Malaysia and the region. The positive step is surely what the doctor would order for the sport to progress further.”

Added Peter Imran Winton, CEO, Asiapromote Ventures, “We are very pleased that FEI has been very supportive of all our initiatives, and I believe with FEI’s continued strong backing we would be able to create more exciting high-level international equestrian events for riders in the region. We want to bring the best to the riders and equestrian fans alike.”

To identify young riders who would be Malaysia’s future gold medallists and Olympians, the Future Champion Search series is being organised at the KL Grand Prix CSI 5* for those under 21. These young riders will have the rare opportunity to observe, interact and learn from Olympians, World Champions and Gold Medallists.

The best of the best in Asia will compete in the Asian Series to contend for a spot in the main event, the KL Grand Prix CSI 5*. Top riders from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines will be battling it out at the Final of the South East Asian League to represent the region at the Gothenburg FEI World Cup Final Jumping.

To be held from November 22 to 25, 2007, the KL Grand Prix CSI 5* returns with more excitement, more verve.  “We want to make this year’s KL Grand Prix THE SHOW of the year.  In the pipeline are amazing horse acts and great entertainment,” said Wan Zaleha. .

The expo featuring 200 exhibition booths over 4,600 sq. m. of floor space is set to be a shopping paradise. Malaysian products and handicraft, equestrian products and services will be showcased while delectable Asian cuisines will titillate visitors’ palates. It will also serve as an ideal platform for exhibitors, particularly those in the equestrian trade, to present and market their products to the Asian market. Business opportunities abound as the equestrian culture in Asia is growing rapidly.

This year the KL Grand Prix will be focused as much on entertainment as it will on the sport. The KL Grand Prix Expo and spectacular entertainment lined up will draw even more visitors, particularly those who are not horse enthusiasts, to the show.
