The internationally acclaimed musical extravaganza, The Merchants of Bollywood, is all set to take Malaysia by storm. Based on the true life story of Vaibhavi Merchant, choreographer of the musical, the Merchants of Bollywood tells the tale of Ayesha Merchant, who is trained by her grandfather in Indian Classical dance, but is determined to make a name for herself in Bollywood, much to her grandfather’s disapproval.
With a cast that comes directly from Bollywood film-city Mumbai, it is hardly a surprise that many big names in the Bollywood film industry have given thumbs up to The Merchants of Bollywood.
Bollywood super-stars such as Salman Khan and Priyanka Chopra have coined the ‘The Merchants of Bollywood’ a ‘beautifully stunning show, with a whole lot of India in 90-minutes.’ However, they aren’t the only Bollywood super-stars to shout praises about the musical.
With a powerful heritage in Bollywood, Abhishek Bachchan, son of Bollywood mega-star Amitabh Bachchan, was quoted saying, “the show is extremely interesting as it showcases the ability to amalgamate two different styles of dance – classical Indian and Western funk”.
Another familiar Bollywood star who is known best for her precise dance moves and raspy voice, Rani Mukerjee spoke of the musical with verve. According to the Bollywood star, The Merchants of Bollywood is a musical that is so exhilarating; audiences are bound to be on their feet and dancing. The high-octane musical extravaganza introduces a cast of 53, with 1200 costume changes, 2500 pieces of Indian jewellery as well as 40 years of Bollywood history wrapped up into 90 minutes of swirling colour, sparkle, shimmer, and electrifying energy.
